About Industrial Waste Water Treatment Plant

Wastewater treatment covers the mechanisms and processes used to treat wastewater that is produced as a by-product of industrial or commercial activities. After treatment, the treated industrial wastewater (or effluent) may be reused or released to a sanitary sewer or to a surface water in the environment. Most industries produce some wastewater although recent trends in the developed world have been to minimise such production or recycle such wastewater within the production process. However, many industries remain dependent on processes that produce wastewaters.

The principal waste-waters associated with mines and quarries are slurries of rock particles in water. These arise from rainfall washing exposed surfaces and haul roads and also from rock washing and grading processes. Volumes of water can be very high, especially rainfall related arisings on large sites. Some specialized separation operations, such as coal washing to separate coal from native rock using density gradients, can produce wastewater contaminated by fine particulatehaematite and surfactants. Oils and hydraulic oils are also common contaminants.

Coagulation and Flocculation

Coagulation: Chemicals like alum are added to the water to cause small particles to stick together and form larger particles (floc).
Flocculation: The water is gently stirred to encourage the floc particles to bind together into larger clusters.

Sedimentation

The floc particles, which are now heavier, settle to the bottom of a large tank through the process of gravity. This step removes the larger particles from the water.

Filtration

After sedimentation, the water is passed through filters made of sand and other materials to remove smaller particles and remaining impurities.

Disinfection

To kill or inactivate harmful microorganisms, disinfection is carried out using chemicals like chlorine or ultraviolet (UV) light.

Storage and Distribution

After treatment, the clean water is stored in tanks or reservoirs before being distributed to consumers via a network of pipes.

Additional Processes:

pH Adjustment: In some cases, chemicals are added to adjust the pH of the water to prevent corrosion in pipes and other issues.
Fluoridation: Some plants add fluoride to the water to help prevent tooth decay.
