1. Coagulation and Flocculation

Coagulation: Chemicals like alum are added to the water to cause small particles to stick together and form larger particles (floc).
Flocculation: The water is gently stirred to encourage the floc particles to bind together into larger clusters.

2. Sedimentation

The floc particles, which are now heavier, settle to the bottom of a large tank through the process of gravity. This step removes the larger particles from the water.

3. Filtration

After sedimentation, the water is passed through filters made of sand, gravel, and other materials to remove smaller particles and remaining impurities.

4. Disinfection

To kill or inactivate harmful microorganisms, disinfection is carried out using chemicals like chlorine or ultraviolet (UV) light.

5. Storage and Distribution
